    By Treasurefolk (Alaska)
Wow, I called Kidde to see if I could send it back to have it worked on or recalibrated...they said don't bother because they just throw it in the trash. So much for customer service and standing behind your own product. The lady said dog gas and human gas could make it set off. I said there are no dogs and my husband is at sleep in the middle of the night when the thing goes off. She said cleaners, candles (even unlit), furniture polish, nail polish could make the alarm go off. Then she said I should be calling the gas company. I said if it was gas I could smell it and there was no smell. Totally ridiculous. And I could have taken it back to Lowes or Home Depot if my hubby had kept the receipt. What a waste and so expensive too.
Customer rating is 1 of 5  False Gas Alarm   2010-05-28
    By S. Dewing (Wisconsin)
I was relieved to find that it was sensitive when the detector went off when I was spraying a ton of lysol. But, thismorning when nothing was going on the Gas detector went off. I knew that I didn't smell any gas but I didn't want to chance it so I called the fire department to have them take a look around with their equipment. Of coarse they didn't find anything wrong, they suggested that I purchase CO specific detectors and smoke detectors seperately. Apparently there is too much stuff they(kidde) are trying to cram into these detectors and there are gliches and who knows what and when something is wrong. I bought this model at our local Menards since they didn't have any CO specific for $50. I wish that I had read these reviews first. This one is not worth the trouble, please don't buy. And oh yeah, the fire department is going to charge me too, hopefully no more than my insurance deductible of $500, but my police officer husband informed me that they typically can charge up to $1000 to come and look around the house. I plan to call the company tomorrow in hopes they will replace my detector for just a CO.

Well, it's 2:17am and I'm typing this in bed. Since I'm wide awake after ANOTHER false alarm, I have to find something to do to get tired again. My Kidde is lying in the garbage, back cover ripped off, battery pulled out. Maybe they should stop making gas alarms and turn their efforts towards alarm clocks. I guarantee you'll never sleep through it. I could care less if their customer service backs it or would exchange it for just a CO detector; any company that makes this crappy of a product will not get the chance to make amends with me.

Ok, well, I'm off to other random web sites in a vain effort to shake off the cold sweats and ringing ears the Kidde gave me for no good reason. Unless you like loud screeching false alarms in the dead of the night, avoid this POS like the plague.
Customer rating is 4 of 5  Best Alarm with a few problems, but with a responsive company   2010-03-28
    By Mrs. Allen (Atlanta)
We bought this alarm about one and a half years ago. For a while we had no problems at all. It even detected a leak when the line that supplied the gas to our stove cracked. Then we started getting false GAS alarms in the early morning hours. They would happen about 3-4 times a week. After a thorough inspection, we felt certain that these alarms were indeed false. I called KIDDE after reading this suggestion from other reviews. The customer service rep, Kathryn, was very helpful, professional and concerned. She sent us a replacement within 10 days, and we mailed the defective unit back to her for inspection.

Almost all products can have defects, but very few companies actually respond in a professional, quick manner. There is no better alarm out there, and Kidde has proven to be a responsible company.

    By Mark Twain (Pittsburgh)
It's garbage. I have two of these and they randomly give false alarms. They're absolutely false alarms since I keep them close (since they're useless anyway) and only one will go off (usually in the middle of the night). I'd heard Nighthawk was the best. This unit is a joke. Buy anything else or simply flush $60 down the toilet for the same result.
